Avo Ana Irena Olimpia de Almeida Aipelu Preschool Opens

Aipelu, in the district of Liquiça, Timor-Leste, is a city of around 5000 people located 32 km to the west of Dili, the national capital.

The Avo Ana Irena Olimpia de Almeida Aipelu school, the Foundation’s second, will accommodate 100 preschool children per day from the city and surrounds.

Preschool is a new concept for Timor-Leste, and there is great merit in bringing early education to the Timorese population. These early school years provide many benefits, including:

• introducing literacy and numeracy skills
• increasing social connection, and
• a love of learning in an engaging community environment.

The preschool was built in collaboration with Spend It Well and is the first step in helping Timor-Leste’s youngest on a path to primary, secondary, and hopefully, vocational or tertiary courses later in life.
